Why You Should Call an Electrician Before Summer Heats Up

Now that the winter chill is finally behind us, it’s time to anticipate the warmth of summer. Except that we like to keep that at bay, as well. The modern convenience of air conditioning can create a more comfortable living situation, but it also comes with a price tag. For budget-savvy homeowners, there are two ways we can help you keep your energy costs low without sacrificing your sanity during those balmy days ahead: We can install ceiling fans and inspect your air conditioner.

Professional Ceiling Fan Installation

Why would you hire someone to install a ceiling fan, instead of doing it yourself? If you already had a ceiling light fixture, how hard can it be to switch it out for a ceiling fan? Forgive me for stating the obvious, but ceiling fans have moving parts, requiring them to be properly secured to a fixture that’s capable of safely handling the added weight and pressure caused by movement. Just because your standard light fixture was safely mounted does not mean the same mounting will work for a ceiling fan. Your new fixture will also require proper fitting with electrical wiring in order to ensure optimal safety.

Professional ceiling fan installation will involve a technician checking your home’s electrical wiring to be sure there are no problems that will impair your ceiling fan’s functionality. They will then secure the fan and connect it to your electrical system. The next step is to test it extensively, making sure your family is not at risk from electrical shock. For purposes of both safety and cost savings, hiring a professional is the best choice for ceiling fan installation.

Professional Central Air Inspection

Just like automobile owners realize the need for regular vehicle inspection and maintenance, homeowners do well to maintain regular inspections of their electrical systems and HVAC components, including their central air conditioning systems. As part of regular home safety inspections, air conditioner inspections involve an electrician’s evaluation of your home’s electrical wiring. If issues are found, repairs can be made before major damage is done, causing danger to your family or your air conditioning unit.

As with all regular maintenance, air conditioner inspection benefits homeowners by reducing the chance of more costly repairs and significant inconveniences — such as a broken air conditioning during peak temperatures of summer. (You can be sure that electricians will be busy during such times, too!) In addition to helping you avoid major problems, regular maintenance of your central air conditioning system will help it to work more efficiently, producing better air quality and keeping your energy costs down.

I never would have guessed that an electrician could be so beneficial when it comes to the hot summer months. I like how you explained that an electrician can help to inspect your central air system. I can imagine how helpful these services can be when it comes to ensuring that your AC unit is working properly and efficiently.

This is really good advice to consider as the weather gets hotter. My husband and I recently moved into an older home, so we are planning on updating some of the electrical work. I like what you said about getting a professional to install a ceiling fan. There’s a room behind our garage that has a spot for a fan, but the previous owners never had one put in. There are just wires hanging out of the ceiling, so I would have no idea how to hook that up to a new fixture, not to mention that I would also have to consider the added weight, as you pointed out.

My husband and I would like to add some lights and a ceiling fan into one of the guest bedrooms because my children will be bringing their baby when they visit next month. It would be best for the child to have some air circulating in her room. I really appreciated the information you gave that ceiling fans need to be installed by an electrician service because of the weight and movement that the ceiling will have to support.
