Concrete is an extremely sturdy material that’s built to last. It’s no wonder why so many home and business owners choose to install this versatile and durable material on their properties. Whether it’s going to be used for constructing factory floors, parking lots, or building foundations, concrete is an ideal choice.

As with any building project, finding a top-notch contractor is vital if you want the best possible results. The points raised in this series of articles underscore some of the most important things to look for when it comes to hiring the right concrete contractor.

Make Sure They’re Qualified

One of the quickest ways to narrow down your choices when it comes to hiring a concrete contractor is to find out if they’ve met some basic qualifications that can help you determine if their workers are educated and trustworthy. For starters, find out if the contractor is licensed, bonded, and insured.

Why a License Matters

Holding a state license will demonstrate that their company hires people who have the necessary apprenticeships, training, and education to meet the state’s standards. Check to be sure that their license is current. Allowing the license to lapse is a red flag.

Why Insurance Matters

If the company is insured, you’ll have the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you’ll have legal protection if they accidentally cause damage to your property, or if anyone is injured during the duration of the construction project.

Why Bonding Matters

Bonding helps to safeguard the money you’re investing in the concrete construction project. It legally obligates them to complete the job. Without it, they could walk away in the middle of the job, and it would be legally difficult for you to recoup your loss on the project.

Make Sure They Have References

Talk to other people who have worked with this concrete contractor in the past. Are they satisfied with the work that was done? Find out who their clients were and call them. It’s especially helpful to contact those who have had the same type of project done that you’re thinking about hiring the company to complete for you. Checking references will give you a feel for the overall quality of the company’s work as well as whether they have expertise in the type of work you’re looking to have done.

Some pertinent questions to ask when you call the company’s references would include not only the quality of their workmanship but how trustworthy and dependable they are when it comes to sticking to the budget and getting the work done on time.

Ask your contractor for a list of past and present clients who have had work done similar to the project your business needs. It’s important to talk to a business that used the contractor for a similar project, because this will give you better insight into their specific abilities. Find out if they communicate well with their clients and if their team is professional and courteous. At a minimum, contact two previous clients. You can even check out their work in person. Looking at internet reviews is another good way to get a feel for the contractor’s reputation.

It’s a good idea to talk to two or three clients for any contractor you are considering. This will give you a more diverse range of opinions. You should also go to visit the sites and take a look at the work to see it for yourself.

Selecting a reliable contractor could be the key to success when it comes to installing concrete at your home or workplace. In the next article, we’ll take a look at a few more of the qualities you should seek out when it comes to hiring a concrete contractor.
