What Sets our Hand-Scraped Flooring Apart from the Competition, Part 1

As the timeless appeal of hand-scraped hardwood flooring continues to rise in popularity, we want to describe what sets Rehmeyer custom wood flooring apart from the competition as well as what makes our various custom flooring collections distinct from one another. First, we’ll look at what makes a distressed Rehmeyer wood floor different from the distressing and replicated wear of mass-produced wood flooring planks. In many ways, we take care of our flooring in much the same way as a loving parent takes care of his or her children: We provide each with individual attention, quality time, and a hands-on approach.

Individual Attention

Like each child, we believe that each floor and each flooring board deserves to be treated as an individual. Each plank is individually distressed, making each board which we create — and, by extension, each floor — a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Depending on whether we’re talking about our Authentic Hand-Scraped flooring, Old Trail Collection, or Legacy Collection, we use a variety of methods to distress the flooring. We use a 3” hand-held scraping tool, custom-created power tools, and a variety of sanding methods to add texture to individual boards that will achieve a truly naturally aged and distressed appearance. Again depending on the collection, we can also use an Accent Color to create additionally specialized treatment.

Quality Time

You know the saying, ”It’s not quantity but quality time that counts?” Well, we’re not going to argue about how much or what kind of time you should spend with your kids, but as far as flooring goes, we believe it’s a combination: Good craftsmanship takes a high quantity of quality time. We start with character-grade premium lumber, and our expert craftsmen spend a lot of time nurturing each board into a work of art. We use quality materials, tools, and methods to achieve uniquely distressed flooring with unmatched beauty. For our Old Trail collection, we even use vintage nails and screws to arrive at an authentically time-honored look.

Hands-on Approach

The individual attention and quality time we give each board and floor requires a hands-on approach. You know the term “run-of-the-mill”? It refers to the way all wood that runs through the same machine will look identical to other lengths of wood that have gone through the same milling. That might be nice for crown moulding, but it can get boring when you’re talking about an entire floor. If you’re looking for a floor with character, it takes a hands-on approach. What we do is completely different from feeding planks through machines that make repetitive distressing patterns. Instead, we use hand-scraping methods and hand-held power tools, giving each board the attention it deserves.

Here at Rehmeyer, we take our craftsmanship seriously, providing each and every board with the kind of care and dedication that makes every floor special.
