Many students do not understand just how beneficial a tutor can be. Tutors come in many varieties, but they all have one specific aim: to give you the individual, one-on-one attention and instruction you need to succeed.
Now doesn’t that sound nice? Hiring a tutor is nothing at all to feel embarrassed about, because, many times, it’s the brightest students who make use of tutors to help keep their grades up. Hiring a tutor also doesn’t have to be expensive. Many schools offer free tutoring through their learning services departments, and, frequently, the tutoring comes from another college student who has already completed the class you need tutoring for.
As your peer, the tutor is down to earth and understanding of your problems. Plus, oftentimes, they’ve taken the class with the same professor and can give you tips and tricks for doing well in his class.
If your school does not offer free services, consider putting an ad on a free advertisement website like Craigslist or your campus news. There are plenty of people out there dying to make a little money teaching others what they know, and many of them would probably be willing to help you for a very small sum. Some might even be open to the possibility of bartering. So if you have the time and you want the help, there is really no good excuse not to get a tutor.
