Preparing Your Pool for Festive Holiday Fun – Part 2

Getting your outdoor oasis ready for the most wonderful time of the year is now more exciting than ever before, thanks to all the choices out there for holiday pool décor. Here are a few creative concepts to help get you into the spirit of the season!

1. Brighten Up the Night with Battery-Operated Votive Candles

Whether you choose to float them on the surface of your pool or place them strategically around the deck or patio, battery-operated votive candles can add a touch of romance and mystery to your pool area this holiday season. You can go with white for a traditional glow or add some cheer with different colored votive candles.

2. Beautify the Backyard with Poinsettias, Miniature Evergreen Trees, and Pine Boughs

Including some Christmastime botanical favorites to your poolside area can create a classy, elegant holiday garden look. Consider adding either red, white, pink, or burgundy-colored poinsettias in gold or silver pots and adorned with festive ribbons. You can also set up some mini-evergreen trees bejeweled with tiny ornaments near the pool. Place pine boughs and sprigs of holly on tabletops for a finishing touch.

3. Deck the Deck with Holiday Statues!

Consider adding some seasonal statuary to spruce up your deck or patio. You could add a traditional nativity scene, Santa Clause, Reindeer, or whatever holiday theme suits your fancy. Fan operated inflatable “statues” are also a popular choice for yards. Just don’t get them close to the pool, because you don’t want to create an electrocution hazard.

4. Line the Pool’s Edge with Luminaries

Adding battery-operated luminaries all around the edge of your pool can create a soft, shimmering glow on the water that’s just perfect for the holidays. This is an especially good idea for evening and night time parties. Make sure if you’re going to allow swimming that you also have plenty of adequate lighting turned on for safety.

5. Try for a Tropical Christmas Look with Decorated Palm Trees

If you live in a warm area, accentuate the advantages of your lifestyle by hanging lights, snowflakes, and ornaments on either real or faux palm trees. You can probably find a tropical-themed Santa Clause prop wearing sunglasses to add to your festive fun-in-the-sun scene.

6. Fill the Pool with Festive Floats

There is a wide selection of holiday floats available in pool supply stores, in catalogs, and from online retailers. Choose the ones that best reflect your style to create some quick, nearly effortless holiday cheer. If you want a look that will mimic giant, round Christmas ornaments, consider adding some LED glow balls to the surface of your pool. They’re rechargeable, can be set to white, colored, or color-changing settings, and look amazing when placed on the surface of the water at night!

7. Go Over the Top by Adding a Tree to Your Pool!

If you can’t get enough when it comes to Christmas decorating, consider adding a Christmas tree to the surface of your pool! You can set up a small, lightweight tree on top of a sturdy float that’s weighted to stay in one area of your pool. Make sure the tree is secured firmly to the float. It’s best to use a fake tree for this type of decoration, so you don’t have to deal with pine needles getting all over the place, including in the filter! You could even make decorating the tree into a game by throwing large plastic ornaments into the pool and letting your guests swim around, grab them, and decorate the tree!

Hopefully, these ideas have sparked your imagination. Have a safe, happy holiday enjoying all the festivity which your backyard pool has to offer!
