Multi-Tasking With Computers

Last updated on July 15, 2008 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

I find myself sitting in front of this computer screen for a good bit of the day. A decent amount of my work is done on the computer, and then when I have free time I’m checking email, searching for this, that or the other and just always busy. If only I could find a way to wash the dishes, vacuum the floor and cook supper from my computer!

Seriously though, there has to be a way I can take care of more things around the house while taking care of the things I need to do online. That’s why the X10 ActiveHome Pro Software (SW13A) and other X10 products would come in handy. With these I can control my home in three different ways. I can program my house to work on a schedule, I can turn on appliances and lights right from my computer in “real time” with just a few seconds delay, or I can use this system right over the telephone with the X10 Telephone Controller.

So what does this mean? I could program the coffee pot to come on at a certain time in the morning, the outside light to come on just before my husband pulls in on winter evenings, and even have the lights gradually come on to wake me slowly in the morning.

Just because there is a set schedule, that doesn’t mean things must always remain the same with this great setup. I could set the schedule for certain days or set a certain sequence of dates for any day on the calendar. So . . . if I was away on vacation, I could set the lights to come on in sequence so it appears my family is at home.

Now in case you’re wondering, when the ActiveHome Computer Interface Module is being used, it is not necessary to have the computer on at all times. Once the desired schedule is set, the computer is no longer needed so the laptop can be taken to work and the normal days activities can continue without it.

I am one major multitasker and I like schedules! Unless I’m dead tired, you will seldom find me sitting around doing nothing, usually I have multiple tasks happening at the same time. I have found I can hold a baby, peddle an exercise bike and put items together for a class I’m teaching all at the same time. The more I can combine simple tasks, the better. The Home Automation Store has just the kinds of gadgets I need to multi-task my home and make my life just a little bit less hectic!
