More About SecuriLINK Home Security Systems

Last updated on March 17, 2017 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

In a previous post, we examined the basics about the SC1200 SecuriLINK Console. Now we’ll look at how the other components of an X10 SecuriLINK Home Security System complement that basic unit.

Door and Window Sensors

X10 DS12A Smart Door/Window Sensor

Since the SC1200 Console is triggered via door and window sensors like the DS12A, these battery-operated, wireless devices are pivotal to the proper functionality of your X10 security system. Installation is simple; all you need to do is place a sensor in position and make sure it’s linked to the console. Absolutely no wiring is needed. This kind of simple, wireless installation means that in addition to saving on monthly fees, you get to save by installing the system on your own. Most people are able to set up the entire system in a half hour or less, with no special tools required. As long as you have a standard screwdriver and can follow simple instructions, we’re convinced that you’ll be able to install the system on your own.

Lighting Timers

The purpose of any good home security system reaches beyond simply alerting homeowners and authorities when a crime or emergency has occurred; it also includes taking steps to help prevent problems. It’s well known that the appearance of being inhabited and watched is a major factor in deterring burglaries and other criminal activity. When your home’s lighting is on a timer, would-be thieves will likely assume someone is home and move on to what appears to be an easier target. The SC1200 Console includes a built-in lighting timer, allowing you to program your indoor and outdoor lighting to turn on and off at either scheduled or random times.

Motion Detectors

X10 MS18A Motion Sensor

When you set up a motion detector such as the MS18A Smart Security Motion Detector in your hallway, inside a room, or in a stairwell, it will be able to trigger your alarm whenever motion reaches within 40 feet of a device. By strategic placement of a Motion Detector, you can even eliminate the need for a Door/Window Sensor on each window in a room with many windows. The system can be set to “Home Mode,” allowing Motion Detectors to be deactivated when you’re home but still want your SecuriLINK system operational (such as while you’re in bed).

Protection for 32 Zones

Your SecuriLINK Wireless Home Security System from X10 can handle up to 30 zones, each of which can include a number of X10 Door/Window Sensors and Motion Detectors. In addition to those 30 zones, it allows you to link two hard-wired sensors, even third-party sensors. For instance, perhaps you have an existing wired water level sensor or glass break sensor or a motion detector you purchased to coordinate with a previous security system. While we highly recommend X10 options such as the wireless X10 GB10A Security Glass Break Sensor and the wired WD13A Water Sensor, we understand if you have existing modules you’d prefer to continue using.
