Whatever your calendar looks like as you approach the winter months, it’s never too early to anticipate summer — and your next pool party! Why not start planning for it now, so you can focus on enjoying every minute of outdoor time you can, once the weather turns warmer? If that sounds like fun, we have some great ideas to help you get your own creative juices flowing!
The Theme Is the Thing
We know, we know — having your own swimming pool allows you to easily entertain without a lot of fuss. Do you really need any theme besides “pool party” to get a crowd and have a good time? Absolutely not. But maybe you still want to give it a try. Especially if you’ve had your pool for more than a season or two, you might be ready for something a little different. And if you thought themes were just for kids’ birthday parties, think again. (After all, why should kids have all the fun?!)
Whether your next pool party will be for the over-21 crowd or include family members and friends with a range of ages, you can create extra enthusiasm by coming up with a theme. A theme will help unify the various elements of your party — from invitations to food and beverage offerings and maybe even games and goody bags.
Party Theme Idea #1: Costume Party
Did you know that October 31 isn’t the only day when dress-ups are allowed? A costume party can help even the most introverted among us to break out of their usual routine and maybe even connect with those with whom they might not otherwise be comfortable. Anticipation will build, as your guests collect or even design the items they need to create their outfits and wonder what other people will be wearing.
Once they’re at the party, your guests will be sure to compliment one another and receive kudos in return — and who doesn’t enjoy that?! Another benefit of costumes is that they create an added break from the reality of daily life; it’s nice to be someone else for a little while. Maybe as adults, we don’t let ourselves use our imaginations often enough — but when we do, it reminds us of those happy childhood moments when we did just that. Your guests will, no doubt, be thankful that you gave them a chance to feel like a kid again — in the best possible way.
Party Theme Idea #2: The 1950s
While you can certainly incorporate costumes into a more decade-specific theme, the key here is to have music and food and just about every single thing relating to the decade of your choice. One of our favorites is the 1950s — think fun dance music, colorful beach balls, greasy cheeseburgers, and thick milkshakes topped with whipped cream and cherries.
Whatever theme you choose, the right tunes will be a huge part of establishing the atmosphere. For tips on specific ways you can set up your next pool party for success, check out our next post, “Pool Party Planning for Beginners” (coming soon!).
