How To Keep Cool by the Pool, Part 1

Last updated on December 20, 2021 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

backyard pool dream oasis

Your backyard swimming pool has so much potential to help refresh you during the heat of summer. But depending on your yard and the climate in which you live, once your swimming pool water is exposed to the daytime sunlight, the water can definitely become a bit warmer than the cool, refreshing temperature you desire. Not only will keeping your pool water cooler benefit you and your guests, but it will also help with pool maintenance, since cooler water is less hospitable for the growth of algae and bacteria. So let’s take a look at a couple of the best ways to keep your swimming pool water’s temperature consistent, offering optimal refreshment potential!

Reversible Heat Pump

While many organic options for regulating water temperature can make some impact, a variety of variables will affect the effectiveness of those solutions. By contrast, a reversible heat pump offers a reliable means of controlling the temperature of your swimming pool water. This pump works by leveraging refrigerant, which can be either automatically or manually regulated. This option allows for the most precise temperature regulation possible, helping the water retain a consistent temperature, both cooling it during the summer months and heating it during the winter. Only you can decide if the expense of a reversible heat pump will be justified, depending on your environment, amount of use, and budget. It will no doubt extend your “pool season” as well as make morning swims much more enjoyable.

Mechanical Evaporative Chiller

Like a reversible heat pump, a mechanical evaporative chiller will lower the temperature of your pool water, allowing you to save time and money on pool maintenance. A mechanical evaporative chiller functions in a way that’s similar to an outdoor air conditioner. It works by moving the pool water through the chiller system using fans. When you use this system at night, it will help the cooler nighttime temperatures to have a moderating effect on the pool water.

Shade Sails

On the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to expense, shade sails can still make a significant impact on the temperature of your swimming pool water. In addition to keeping pool water cooler, shade sails can also help provide shade from the sun for those around your pool. The easy-to-install triangular cloths also help create a colorful canopy that adds more visual interest to your swimming pool area. They offer more coverage than an umbrella and come in a variety of custom color options. Because a shade sail helps protect the pool water from exposure to the sun’s UV rays, it also helps reduce chlorine loss, saving you time and money on pool maintenance.

In our next post, we’ll look at a couple more ways to help keep your pool water cool, optimizing its ability to refresh you.
