Once you have your outdoor pizza oven built, it will be time to start experimenting with recipes! Whether you’re a die-hard foodie or a sucker for a classic pepperoni pizza, we’re sure you can find plenty of ideas for adding to your creations. But eventually you may want to venture outside the realm of pizza. And your outdoor brick oven offers plenty of possibilities for that day, should it ever come. Here’s a general principle to keep in mind: if you can roast it indoors, you can roast it outdoors too! Think of whatever you’d be roasting in your indoor oven on a cold winter day.
Meat and Main Courses
Start with your summertime favorites, the ones you used to grill. Your brick oven is a great place to cook steaks, baby back ribs, and more! To properly prepare a steak, be sure to find a rack that will allow you to position the steaks directly over the flames. Drizzle both sides with some olive oil, and sprinkle with seasoning. Then add some hickory nuts for a smoky flavor and cook to your personal preference. Check out this recipe for Brick Oven Baby Back Ribs for a special treat!
Red meat, of course, isn’t the only option when it comes to protein-rich main courses. Fish and other seafood is an important source of vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, and other boosts for your physical, emotional, and mental health. Cedar wood can be used in your brick oven for cooking salmon, a perennial favorite fish dish. After warming the oven for about 45 minutes, add a splash of orange along with some black pepper and sea salt, and cook the fish on slabs of cedar. You’ll just need to slide the fish, positioned on the cedar slabs, into the oven for 5 minutes or so. Then add a little more orange juice, and your fish will be a fantastic centerpiece for your nutritious and flavorful feast!
Don’t Forget Your Veggies!
Many people who aren’t big on veggies can appreciate the nutritional and flavorful benefits of roasted vegetables. The many vitamins and nutrients that naturally occur in vegetables can be literally boiled out of them – along with any flavor; however, when you roast the very same veggies, you’ll retain both.
Simply use the smoldering, red-hot coals left behind from another dish to be used as a bed for seasoned vegetables, wrapped in foil. You can purchase premade seasoning packets, look up various seasoning recipes, or combine your favorite spices to create your own custom vegetable roast. Here’s one idea that includes a hint of your oven’s original object with soft, melted cheese.
Once you get started experimenting, you’ll realize how versatile cooking in your brick oven can be! Top your outdoor menu with a classic dessert, like this one and you’ll realize that the possibilities are truly endless.
