Checklist for Summer Travel With Your Pet

Last updated on September 15, 2010 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Check ahead with the hotel, resort, campground AND friends or family to make sure your pet will be welcome.

If you are traveling across state or international borders, you must have a signed health certificate from your veterinarian stating that the pet is free of disease. Vaccinations must be up to date.

If you are traveling out of the country, contact the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Foreign Consulate of the country you will be visiting.

Locate a nearby 24 hour emergency vet in the town you will be visiting. Bring the address and phone number.

Locate a daycare and boarding facility in the area in case you have an unexpected emergency. Bring the address and phone number and be sure you fulfill their requirements for vaccinations or otherwise. Consider a national resource such as the Pet Care Services Association to find a reputable place to leave your pet.

  • Your vet’s name & phone number
  • A list of vets and emergency hospitals in the area you will be visiting and along the way

best dog boarding place in Pittsburgh, PATravel can be stressful for even the most experienced dogs. Be sure to consider your pets needs before making the final decision to bring him with you. Even though you enjoy having him on every trip, remember that you may be occupied with activities that are not always pet friendly. During those times, your dog might be alone in a strange place without you. Look into the boarding options and activities at K9 Kingdom to see if a true doggie vacation just might be a better option!

REMEMBER: NEVER leave your pet in a car, even with the windows cracked or open, water provided, etc. Temperatures inside the car can rise to dangerous levels within minutes, and you could lose your precious companion for the sake of a few seconds’ convenience.
