Smart pool features may have once been for only those who absolutely love having the latest and greatest technology, but not anymore! Today’s pool automation is intuitive and reasonably priced. If you have no imagination for basic benefits and setup for pool automation, you’ll want to take a look at this previous post.
In this edition, we’ll be looking a little more about how to get it set up as well as some less obvious applications and features that will save you time and effort and add that “wow factor” to your next pool party.
Pool Automation Software Setup
Once you’ve hired an electrician to set up the necessary wiring and have your control hub programmed, you’ll be all set to control your smart pool features from your backyard. The next step is to set up your home-automation software. Since the latest home-automation software is increasingly intuitive, you may be able to do this part yourself; however, if you find this kind of thing daunting, you may benefit from asking a tech-savvy friend or family member for help or hiring someone who specializes in home automation for the initial setup.
Once it’s set up, monitoring and adjusting pool settings will be simple and intuitive, whether from your control pad or remotely from the touch-screen device of your choice.
Pool Party Automation Options
A huge benefit of smart systems is that when you’re elbow deep in all the multi-tasking wonder that comes with preparing for and hosting a party, you’ll be able to initiate various systems with your voice. For instance, you could give a verbal command for your device to initiate a “Pool Party” theme. That might include kicking on the pool heater, running the pool pump, and even turning on your party playlist and lights and maybe even water features.
Or perhaps it’s just a party of two for which you’d like to prepare. You’re working late and won’t have time to get the pool heated in time, but you know that you and your significant other definitely need a little pampering. If you have a “Romantic Evening” theme set up, you can remotely ensure that every detail – from the temperature of the water to the music and lighting – are ready for the two of you when you arrive home.
Part-Time Pool Automation
Even if you’re not ready to completely start from scratch with a pool automation system, you can essentially build your own smart pool system using network controls and smart devices which you already own. Depending on your level of technology expertise, you may be able to fairly easily customize your own smart pool system, bit by bit.
Switches and a control hub will still be needed for initial setup, but for a system more general than a pool-specific one, a hub like the SmartThings hub can be used. You’ll still be able to trigger a cluster of activities with a single command. You can then connect any item that you wish via a controller. Using a combination of smart outlets and switches, you can control all the same things as you could with a pool-specific system – from your pool pump and heater to security cameras, alarms and sound systems.
